The Coldstream FTO+ CF163W Water Filters and Purifiers

Coldstream FTO+ filters use advanced technology combining high-density ceramics and high-performance activated carbon, ensuring optimal and consistent filtration.

Coldstream FTO+ cartridges are manufactured by KLT Filtration Ltd (United Kingdom), EPA Establishment No. 102789-GBR-1.

Key Facts

  • Capacity: 1,500 L (396 gal) per pair, about 6 months at 8 L (2.1 gal) per day

  • Performance tested to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and P231 by an independent laboratory

  • Made in the UK by KLT Filtration Ltd, EPA Establishment No. 102789-GBR-1

  • No priming required

  • Works with most gravity-fed systems (see compatibility below)

What's in the Box

  • 2 Coldstream FTO+ Filters

  • 4 gaskets (comes with two washers per filter. Use one in the upper chamber between the filter and the steel. Keep the other one in reserve)

  • 2 wing nuts

How It's Built

Ceramic: Diatomaceous earth, a natural microporous mineral, compressed under high pressure for a dense, strong structure that forms a sub-micron physical barrier. The ceramic is impregnated with ionic silver, which inhibits the growth of bacteria on the filter itself between uses.

Activated carbon: High-quality mixed activated carbon, activated at high temperature to increase its adsorption surface, and incorporated into the ceramic.

What It's Tested For

  • Reduction of fluoride and nitrates, within the recommended replacement window (6 months / 1,500 L per pair)

  • Reduction of the contaminants listed in the performance data sheet, including heavy metals, pesticides and VOCs (full list and figures in the data sheet)

  • Reduction of bacteria, cysts and viruses, tested to NSF/ANSI P231 (see data sheet)

  • PFAS: we make no PFAS reduction claim for the FTO+ until its own test results are published.

Results depend on the challenge water and conditions defined in the test report. See the performance data sheet.

Replacement

We recommend replacing each pair every 1,500 L (396 gal) or every 6 months, whichever comes first. That is about 6 months at 8 L (2.1 gal) per day.

The performance data in the data sheet is measured up to 3,000 L, so this shorter interval keeps you well within the tested range.

Mark your calendar 6 months ahead when you install them, and keep a spare pair on hand.

How Many Filters?

  • Minimum: 2 filters in the upper chamber.

  • For faster flow, or above 12 L (3.2 gal) per day, use 4 filters in a Pure Filters Home 9 L or Family 12 L.

  • Around 15 L (4 gal) per day: 4 filters, in systems with room for six.

Our advice: at about 8 L (2.1 gal) per day, install 2 filters and keep 2 as spares. That gives you a full year of supply: FTO+ 4-Pack.

Water Sources

Designed for gravity-fed use with tap water.

Other fresh water, such as rainwater, rivers and lakes, is possible only under the conditions in our Product Use and Water Quality Disclaimer.

Pre-filter cloudy water, and avoid water suspected of chemical, agricultural or industrial contamination. Not for salt water.

Care

No energy required. Clean with cold water and a scouring sponge. Never use hot water.

Compatibility

Compatible with most gravity-fed water filter systems, including Pure Filters, Berkey®, Berkefeld®, ProOne®, Purewell and Phoenix, and Weeplow (except the 5.6 L model).

Please check your model before ordering.

Independent Testing and NSF Listing

FTO+ filters (model CF163W) were tested in a Coldstream system to NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53 and P231 by IAPMO R&T (NJ), New Jersey, USA, for the reduction of the substances listed in the performance data sheet.

The laboratory is in compliance with ISO 17025 and NELAC standards (EPA ID #NJ01298).

Coldstream (KLT Filtration Ltd) is listed to NSF/ANSI 42 as a component (material requirements only): see the certificate.

This listing covers materials only; performance data comes from the laboratory report above.
